OLD WORLD WISCONSIN - Eagle, Wisconsin

Location:
• 35 miles from Milwaukee
• 55 miles from Madison
• 75 miles from Chicago

Eagle is a small community of some 5,000 citizens in southeast Wisconsin’s Waukesha County, home to an attraction that recreates the lifestyle and accomplishments of the immigrants and pioneers who settled Wisconsin.

The attraction is called “Old World Wisconsin” and revolves around the living and working environment of these settlers. See a living demonstration of the lifestyles of the tradesman, shop keepers and other hardy souls that came to build new lives in this new land.

Bring the family! Join your friends and take a fascinating trip back in time. Daily events at Old World Wisconsin can include temperance rallies held in the Village Grove, town hall debates and other hotly contested issues of 19th century Wisconsin, enacted by professionals well versed in the history of the times and based on actual records of these events.

See framers demonstrating the techniques used to separate cream from milk, crafts people demonstrating blacksmithing, spinning, the processing of flax, how meals of more than a century ago were prepared and other daily tasks of life in the long-ago.

A visit to Old World Wisconsin can be particularly enjoyable for visitors participating in the events and celebrations held frequently throughout the year such as:

• April 16th – Easter brunch in the rustic Clausing Barn Restaurant, and old fashioned Easter egg hunt and games for the children.
• May 14th – Mother’s Day Buffet – Mothers receive free admission to the museum which houses once-fading old relics of authentic historical buildings that were located by researchers combing the length and breadth of Wisconsin. These researchers found, dismantled, moved and rebuilt these structures board by board on museum property. The museum now houses more than 60 historical structures ranging from rural outbuildings to furnished houses, ethnic farmsteads and a crossroads village with its traditional small-town institutions.
• August 19th – See demonstrations of old world canning and other methods of food preservation.
• September 2nd – See the recreation of a Civil War encampment, meet and mingle with the soldiers who served and find out how life in Wisconsin was affected by the turmoil of those years
• October 20-22nd – Halloween celebrations begin with an enactment of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
• October 28th – Bring the kiddies to this one! This event awards prizes for best costumes, Trick or Treat 19th century style and lots of candy.
• November 24 – 26th – Dickens “A Christmas Carol”. This is a unique walk-along production as members of the audience follow Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past thru historic buildings.
• December 2 – 3rd – Visitors tour the Crossroads Village established by Finnish immigrants more than a century ago to observe how homes and shops were prepared for the holidays.
• December 16th – A breakfast party with Father Christmas. Balloons, face
painting and old world treats for the children.

    Attn: Marty Perkins

I am hoping to bring Dr. Uwe Schroeder, Director of the Pommersches Landesmuseum in Greifswald, Germany, to OWW on Wednesday morning, June 18th, so that he can visit the Pomeranian areas. Would anyone on staff want to greet him while he is there? In view of the weather we’ve had lately, are there detours or standing water we should be aware of? Are the grounds dry enough to walk on? We will be coming from Cedarburg.

Please email your response, or call me at 1-262-376-7641

    Thank you.

Thank you for contacting http://www.wisconsinbeautiful.com with your request. Since we are a travel site and not directly affiliated with the museum I have forwarded your message on to them and you should be receiving an answer from them.

It sounds like you will have a wonderful experience with Dr. Uwe Schroeder, Director of the Pommersches Landesmuseum in Greifswald, Germany and that you have planned an interesting experience for him.

    Best regards,
